Nice article. My impatience is growing steadily: I can't wait to test Google Wave myself. If anyone has an invite left, please send me one - http://scr.im/jansegers

Thanks for the overview - I think it will be interesting to see if/how the masses adjust/engage in yet another advancement and change in the way we communicate.

I agree, Mike. The real killer app - so far - in Wave, is the realtime collaboration part.
I have been "waving" since early june, and done quite some collaborating on presentations and blog entries with other people, and Wave really shines through here, compared to "the old way" of mutual editing of Wiki documents combined with chat.
Wave combines the editing facilities with the chatting and commenting, and after editing is done, you can easily clean up the Wave or copy the relevant parts to a new wave in order to produce the final document.

The Wave client as it is, is just one way of using the Wave platform and protocol - I think the critics should keep in mind that Wave is not about replacing either Twitter, chat or FriendFeed - it has another and far more important role to play, behind the curtains of social media.

Sincerely
Tommy "Ted" Pedersen :-)

There's definitely potential, I would like to see Mozilla introduce a Google Wave Bugzilla!

In my initial forray into wave it had the look and feel of gmail++. As you mentioned the developer community adoption and the underlying ease of developing with the google wave platform will dictate the success or failure of the protocol/application.

I'd certainly appreciate a default "library" of apps or robots included in each of my waves. The bare bones version of wave is litle more than a chat client with history.

Excellent write up on the Wave...

It's definitely impressive but I never saw the power of it until more people got in the system. Network Effect for sure.

What intrigues me the most are the endless possibilities of this as a platfrom. We already have plans to use this as an interactive element to our podcast - allowing people to participate in real-time yet have an embeddable archive we can take with us.

Excited to see what extensions come out in the near future.

Thanks for the writeup Mike. I agree that tight integration Google Docs will really push Wave over the top in terms of usefulness. Can't wait to see the UI and response time tightened up and then maybe I can start sharing this with coworkers! Well, we'd need more invites for that ;)
