Do you surf the information social highway at work?
—-
If you are like me you check in with your various social networks throughout the day while at work. It’s a daily necessity for us social media connoisseurs to stay constantly connected to our online networks, whether it’s professional or personal. For a lot of us it’s what makes the day go by faster when there is down time. A new study shows that it actually increases productivity, Do you agree? Some of us Twitter, some of us dive into Google reader, some of us network on Facebook and Friendfeed. Whatever your daily online social outlet is, and the tools you use to contribute to them, the point is you are on company time.
A Majority of company’s have Internet guide lines and policies set in place. At my job there is a trust factor along with the policy. They trust that their employees will follow these policies. While everything from email to instant messages are logged, we have the freedom to do what we want on the Internet, as long as we are responsible about it. That to me is a privilege, not a requirement.

On Friendfeed I asked these questions:
-
1) Do you Twitter at work? 2) Blog at work? 3) Surf Friendfeed or Facebook at work?
2) Are you concerned about your employer knowing what you do online at work?
As the replies reveal, a majority of us who are behind a computer all day at work, use some form of social networking application.
